Planet eStream 6.20 Official Release Now Available
New Features
Planet eStream Quizzes and Interactive Timelines
Increase student engagement by turning passive viewing into active learning and making your videos interactive with the addition of questions, annotations and links. Teachers can easily create interactive videos around their chosen curriculum relevant content, to both engage and test student knowledge. They can then analyse the results and track students viewing patterns, and address any issues in class or peer-to-peer.
Support Flipped and Blended Learning Techniques and Engage with Viewers by Using Interactive Timelines
With Planet eStream’s intuitive interactive timeline editor, educators can make their video learning resources curriculum relevant and even more engaging for their students. It is so simple to add annotations, drawings and questions to any video on your Planet eStream library including embedded YouTube videos.
Create your own questions and choose from a number of responses; multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank and free text answer questions, plus you can even leave hints to assist your students.

Highlight specific areas on video content by using simple drawing tools. Draw freehand or use predefined shapes, all of which can be resized and finished in a colour of your choice.
Create text annotations to help guide students and viewers
Insert links to other content within your Planet eStream media library; this can include other relevant video content, pictures, documents and website links. Educators can even drag and drop resources onto the video and they will automatically be uploaded to Planet eStream.
Control your Quizzes
When creating quizzes, educators can tailor the quiz to get the information they require by controlling the responses and tools available to the viewer. In strict test or examination conditions educators can set their quiz to ensure that the students do not receive answer feedback as they progress through the quiz and also choose to not allow skipping of questions. When using the tool as a learning aid, educators can set their quiz to allow students to have repeated attempts at answering questions and get immediate feedback to assist their learning.
Analyse Student Results and Behaviour
Every interaction a viewer makes is logged and fed back to the quiz creator. These results are displayed in an intuitive manner including timeline heat maps illustrating viewing habits. This is a great tool for enabling educators to see the most viewed sections and assess gaps in student knowledge.
Share and Embed
All interactive videos can be shared via web links or embedded into your VLE or other platforms.

Document Handling
Planet eStream is now so much more than a repository for video and audio assets; documents can also be incorporated as part of your media library. This makes Planet eStream a management system for all content types. Documents can simply be uploaded and tagged with full metadata in their own right. PDFs, PowerPoint presentations and images can be viewed in browser, and other document types can be downloaded locally. Documents can also accompany any other media content - great for tagging applicable learning materials to recorded lessons or lectures.
Incorporating Documents with your other Learning Resources
There are a number of ways you can include digital documents within Planet eStream. As standard, Planet eStream enables users to upload documents and tag them with metadata so they become a searchable entity within the media library, just like a video upload.
Adobe PDF documents are the most common electronic document format and users can view these in browser along with PowerPoint presentations and images, or choose to save them to their local device. Other file formats have the option to be downloaded locally and viewed within their native application. Planet eStream supports the upload of most file types and there is administrative control to restrict upload of certain file types.
Another way educators can incorporate documents is by uploading them as a ‘related media’ item. Essentially any asset within your media library facilitates the upload of associated media by educators. This is great for uploading lecture notes or test questions as part of an online course or after a live broadcast.
The final way to incorporate documents in Planet eStream is to add them as links to interactive videos. You can either drag or drop new documents onto your interactive timeline or search for previously uploaded documents. You can then set the time for these thumbnail links to appear during the interactive video or quiz that you have created.
Administrators can implement the same permission levels as they do for video content and users can share the content via embeds and web links. Used in tandem with the Planet eStream Quizzes and Interactive video tool, it provides educators with an incredibly useful teaching tool.
