Planet eStream 6.38 General Release Now Available!

Additions / Changes​​​​​​​


Tag content on Planet eStream with students, years and forms based on data from your iSams system.

Added a new statistics module, with expanded scope.

Added a Global Hotkey (F2) to the Windows Encoder to start/stop encoding.

Added view count to the content list page and CSV export.

CSS editor overlay added to CSS boxes in the Theme Editor.

MyHome option to change the layout of the search result items in the main search between Standard and Basic.

Added an option to hide download links to images and photosets on view/search page.

Added a Schema option to set the default MyHome tab for users.

Widgets will not show content in the Signage Publishing Policy or any Signage Editor Group Publishing Policies

Added additional values to the RSS XML for RSS2 XML validation

Edit Studio Access name changed to Editing and Quizzes under Schemas > Settings and Options

Planet eStream Connect and Freeview permissions under Schemas > Settings and Options now merged into one section.

The show disclaimer setting now includes an option to show disclaimer for one time only, or persistently. Will default to one time if disclaimer is enabled and once users have agreed to disclaimer will not be made to agree to it again.

Twitter share button added to share panel when the Twitter Summary Card is enabled.

Planet eSign


New top link navigation bar.

New dashboard homepage.

Dashboard includes a signage player status overview for easy management.

Recent Items list to show recently edited items for quick access throughout Planet eSign.

Assigned Items list to show any content a user has been granted access to via Editor Lists explicitly.

Dashboard can be set as landing page in Schemas.

Live Encoder override is deprecated.

Flash content options are disabled by default within Planet eSign.

Help documents have been removed and replaced with links to introductory videos.

Screen Designer

Improved page layout for easier editing and managing of content.

Content panels can be resized form all edges of panel.

Content panel editing is now done via sidebar, buttons on panels have been removed.

Drop down list to select panel to edit, no longer have to click on a panel to edit it, especially when panels are hidden behind others.

Font selection now includes Google Web Fonts.

An Add to Screen Loop option so user can include screen in a screen loop they own.

Assets such as images, background images, SWFs and PowerPoints are now uploaded as content to Planet eStream in either Document or Photoset mode. The destination for this content can be controlled via editor groups and schemas.

Option to select a video as the background on a screen design.

Option to lock a panel from being edited by no one but screen design owner and Planet eSign admins.

Option to lock a panel’s position in layout.

Templates - Create and Apply.

Drag and drop, images, ppts and videos onto the canvas area to create panels / set new background.

Thumbnails are generated within the screen designer when saved. Removing the need for a signage player to be set to generate thumbnails.

Advanced settings for screen design now permission based.

Duration of Screen Loop shown.

Page layout modified for easier editing and scheduling.

New option to set which days of the week an item is included.

Content Loops

Page layout changed to make it easier to edit content and timings.

New option to retain video elements in Content Loops during lifetime to aid bandwidth usage (does not apply to Playlist Items).

New option to set duration of item in loop to match the duration of content, applies to video and photosets (1 run through).

Duration of content loop shown, unless photoset selected with no max items set.

Drag and drop content buttons to a specific point in the list.

Message Pools

New Commence option on messages.

New messages are added to the top of the list.

Editor Groups

Editor groups have been adapted to fall in line with Planet eStream Schemas.

Planet eSign Administrator permission permits the user to create and edit the groups.

Editor groups can now have members based on users and directory groups.

Editor groups can control which publishing policies user can add, edit and view the following signage types : Screen, Screen Loops, Content Loops, Message Pools, Signage Players and Zones.

Editor groups can control which publishing policies users can Documents to for assets such as images etc.

Editor Lists

A comma separated list of usernames/emails that designates them rights to edit the content.

Can be applied to Message Pools, Content Loops, Screen Loops and Screen Designs and Zones.

Option to edit these lists is based on being a Planet eSign Administrator or having the option enabled via Editor Groups.


Introduced option to create a simple schedule based on "set as default", "show now" and "show at".

Administrators can clear inactive schedules from the list for maintenance.

Visual overview is now simplified and also adheres to wake and sleep times on players.

Signage Players

Generate Thumbnails is deprecated.

Page will show a link to the currently scheduled screen (if non apply then just the assigned default).

Option to match the sleep settings on all days, based on Mondays values.

Option to apply current sleep settings to all signage players user has rights to access.

Options Page

New option to set a scheduled time for all players to be reset.

New option to set a refresh interval to download data from iSams.

New option to set the interval that playlists and photoset changes are checked for.


Now includes Live Twitter feeds that allow for more real time tweets to be shown on screen.

MLS Content can now specify a specific site name to filter content.

Hardware acceleration and stretch to fit are legacy.

Digital clock graphic sets now removed and replaced with Google Font.

New option for an Analogue clock to be shown

Web page content option includes ‘Fit Panel’ option, useful for embedding web based resources, like Google Slides.

Older Windows 7 signage players will fall back to a Flash HLS player when HLS support is not available via JS/HTML.

Bulletin and Daily Calendar content has option to hide “title header”

New XML Data Formatting tool. Allows users to specify an XML source and design with HTML/CSS how the data will be displayed within the panel.

Calendar content has option to show tomorrows events.


Added Shibboleth and SAML2 SSO support.

Added Google Login support.

New authentication options to control access for external and internal users (within local IP ranges)


Moodle assignment submission videos can now be downloaded directly from the Moodle Submissions page in Planet eStream.

Canvas users can now choose to bypass approval requirements on content uploaded through the Canvas plugin.

Canvas quizzes will now launch as an LTI link and will auto-authenticate when VLE username is set to mail.

Released a new plugin for Desire2Learn.

Implemented Canvas Gradebook integration with Planet eStream Quizzes.

Changed conditions to show upload option on VLE pages to reflect users permissions to add video and/or documents.
