When creating a new Publishing Policy we would recommend using the same network share as an already existing Publishing Policy such as \\eStreamServer\ContentGlobal. The content will be stored in this location, however the view and add permissions are still separate.

If you would like to use a separate network share, such as to relocate the share onto a different storage server, please take in the below considerations into account.

Network Share

The content needs to be accessible via a network share. The website application pool will by default run using the Network Service account which is a local account. I'd recommend ensuring that the eStream server can access and write files to this share location.

The application pool can be changed to run as a different user, providing that this also has access to the eStream database.

If the share is on the same server as the eStream website, please be sure that the Administrators, Encoders, and Network Service all have full control to this location.

Once the folder has been shared, you will have a full share name such as \\eStreamServer\Storage which can be inserted into the eStream website.

Media Server

If Flash Media Server is in use and depending on the version, you will need to make some changes to the current setup.

Please locate the Flash Media Server folder within your Program Files location, for version 3.5 this will be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe" and for version 4.0 upwards this would be in "C:\Program Files\Adobe".

Navigate through the version folder and into the Applications folder, within here you will notice a number of folders which relate to your current Publishing Policy folders. Please take a copy of one of these and name it to be the same as your new Publishing Policy share.

Once complete, open the folder and edit the Application.xml folder within. This can be edited using the standard Notepad. Locate the line similar to below:

<Streams>/;C:\Media\ContentGlobal</Streams>

And change this to the new Publishing Policy share location. This can be a direct path or a share location. Save the file once complete.

To apply the new changes, please restart the service, open Services.MSC and locate the service named either Adobe Media Server or Flash Media Server and right-click to restart.

Virtual Directories

Commonly for external connections Planet eStream uses a Progressive streaming module. This integrates within IIS directly and will allow streaming which can be more beneficial on bandwidth management.

The progressive streaming module needs access to the Publishing Policy folders via Virtual Directories, these make the folders accessible for the website.

To add a new virtual directory, navigate to IIS Manager on the server and expand all sections until you're able to see the eStream5 website.

On the right-hand menu select "View Virtual Directories", this page should open and you will commonly see four virtual directories. Three are for Publishing Policies and one for the eStream Media folder.

Add a new virtual directory choosing the option from the right again, enter in your new share name into the name option and the path into the path location. If the storage is on a different server and accessed from a share, please paste in the full path.

Once saved, please reset the IIS to ensure that all changes are saved.

eStream Website

Finally you can complete the setup of the new Publishing Policy within the eStream website. This can be completed by navigating to Menu > Admin > Media Management > Publishing Policies.

From the dropdown box select the option to Create New and enter in the title and description for the new PP. Add the new network share to the settings and click on the create button. This will save and perform a check on the share to confirm that the website can access and view the network share.

After this it will just be a case of confirming the access permissions from the Schemas, you can choose permissions to Add or just to View by navigating to Admin > Schemas > Publishing Policy Access. You can add the permissions for the new Publishing Policy by selecting it from either the Add or the View dropdown box.

This should complete the process of setting up a new Publishing Policy, if you receive any further issues please contact our Support Team who will be more than happy to help.
